Small Business Success: Raffaele's Tailoring

What is it about the clothes that make the man (or woman)? Raffaele says it’s all about the fit.

Raffaele's Tailoring

Tailoring is almost always essential for clothes to wear the way they were designed to and to look the most flattering. And it’s not just suits either - even everyday clothing usually needs adjusting. If you’ve ever tried on a pair of jeans or a tee that gaped here and there, a few nips and tucks might have been all that it needed. Good tailoring is known to be the secret of well-dressed people.

“Very few people can take a garment off the rack and wear as best as they can without any adjustments,” says Raffaele. “When a garment is tailored to fit properly, the person can immediately tell the difference. They know as soon as they put it on.”

Raffaele’s roots in tailoring go back to the 1970s and since opening his own shop in 2005, he and his staff have worked hard to bring the art of tailoring to life in Thunder Bay.

Raffaele's Tailoring

Raffaele’s Tailoring is full service, and offers everything from repairs and alterations, to precise measuring for suits and uniforms, to tuxedo and suit rentals, wardrobe consultations, and most recently, made-to-measure suits and dresses. Raffaele likens the new made-to-measure service to a ‘build your own’ service for business wear, because all of the features are completely customizable and the clothes are made according to the exact measurements of the person who will be wearing it. There are thousands of options to choose from when it comes to selecting the fabric, buttons, stitching, lining, and styles. The exclusive partnership Raffaele’s Tailoring has with the Canadian company responsible for the manufacturing of the garments means this specific service is not available anywhere else in Northwestern Ontario.

The business has recently expanded into a new and bigger location at the corner of Tungsten and Central to better serve its growing customer base. Raffaele received assistance from Thunder Bay CEDC with planning and marketing the grand re-opening event.
