Mining Readiness Strategy

The City of Thunder Bay, together with Fort William First Nation (FWFN) and the Thunder Bay Community  Economic Development Commission (CEDC) a Mining Readiness Strategy, on April 25, 2013, to address and strategically plan for growth in Thunder Bay and the Northwestern Ontario Region. The Strategy is a major step forward to help guide all of Northwestern Ontario in capitalizing on the many opportunities that mining development is expected to bring to the Region. 

Implementation Framework and Recommendations

The Mining Readiness Strategy, a comprehensive economic development plan designed to help Northwestern Ontario stakeholders focus and capitalize on the many opportunities that mining development will bring to region, completed in 2013, outlined recommendations for implementation. Presently 51 recommendations are in various stages of implementation, the process being led by CEDC over the last year. The attached Mining Readiness Implementation Framework and Recommendations spreadsheet is a “snapshot” of current progress. Work will continue to fully scope out each recommendation, within an implementation team structure going forward. Further updates to both documents will be available on the website as recommendation implementation progresses
