"Record" - In both general usage and under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), records include any document, regardless of media. This includes paper, microfilm, computer disk as well as graphic representations of information such as maps or photographs. There are two categories of records under MFIPPA, general and personal.
"Personal Information" - According to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), recorded information about an identifiable individual. This may include one's name, address, employment history or any other information provided to a government office.
Personal Information also includes the following:
Information relating to race, religion, marital or family status;
Documentation of Educational, Employment, Medical, or Criminal history;
Identifying numbers assigned to an individual (Social Insurance Numbers);
Fingerprints, blood type;
Your personal opinions or views except if they relate to another individual;
Correspondence sent to institution that is implicitly or explicitly private or confidential, as well as the replies to said correspondence that would reveal the content of the original.
The views or opinions of another individual about the individual
The person's name if it appears with other personal information relating to the individual or where disclosure of the name would reveal other personal information.
Personal Information Bank - Under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), a collection of personal information that is organized and capable of being retrieved using an individual's name or an identifying number or particular assigned to the individual.
