Records Schedules

All City of Thunder Bay records are identified under records retention schedules, which provide instructions for the length of time records are kept, their eventual disposition, and their access and security requirements. Records schedules are set out under the authority of the City of Thunder Bay Records Retention By-law in accordance with Sections 254 and 255 of the Municipal Act, 2001 and Chapter 193 of the Thunder Bay Municipal Code. The current Records Authority By-Law is 049-2011, passed 30 May 2011.

Guidance on reading and understanding retention schedules is provided in the following document:

Note to City staff: more recent retention schedules may be available through your departmental records coordinator. Records can be transferred to Archives under new schedules that have not been included in a By-law, but these new schedules cannot be used to authorize disposition.
