Vessel

Title: Vessel
Image Type: Photograph
Constructed: August 2009
Sculptors: Jacqueline Metz & Nancy Chew
Materials Used: Corten steel, wood
Dimensions: 12’h (3.65m) x 15’d (4.57m)
Image Description: This is a picture of the public art installation, "Vessel." The bow of the boat has a steel plate etched with images of historic boat building. The sculpture is akin to a skeleton of a ship, and reminiscent of the the City's industrial shipping heritage. The inspiration for this piece was also drawn from the voyageurs, and the idea that life is an individual's voyage. The structure is unique; as one walks around the perimeter, one will have a very different interpretation of Vessel's identity at different angles.
