Aboriginal Liaison

Aboriginal Liaison Cover webpageThe development and implementation of an Aboriginal Liaison Strategy is strategic initiative No. 42 of the 2007-2010 Strategic Plan. This initiative fits within Council’s strategic priority to provide a high quality of life to all citizens.

The Aboriginal Liaison will play a lead role in establishing relationships within the City’s growing urban aboriginal community as well as with those organizations, agencies and groups representing and serving the Aboriginal community within the City. The City aims to strengthen understanding between the Aboriginal community and the City. This process of engagement will lead to the identification of and agreement on, urban aboriginal priorities within Thunder Bay. In addition, the Aboriginal Liaison will work within the Corporation to raise awareness and understanding of the cultural protocols and sensitivities involved in engaging with and serving the Aboriginal community.

The Aboriginal Liaison will seek to identify individuals and groups that might eventually participate in the establishment of a working group to begin the development of an Aboriginal Liaison Strategy for the City and its growing Aboriginal community.
