City Solicitor & Corporate Counsel

The City Solicitor & Corporate Counsel Office, comprised of the City Solicitor and the Legal Services Division, provides legal representation to the City of Thunder Bay, City Council, staff and related boards and agencies, on matters relating to the City's business and operations. The Legal Services Division also handles the Corporate Risk Management for the City of Thunder Bay. 

Highlights

  • General legal advice to the City (such as responding to questions of City Council or Administration, and commenting on new or revised legislation, etc.)
  • Legal advice and representation with respect to real estate transactions, preparation and review of municipal contracts, documents and legislation
  • Legal advice and representation with respect to claims brought against the City (insured or otherwise)
  • Legal advice and representation with respect to claims the City has against others
  • Representation of the City at courts and tribunals, as required
  • Liaison with external legal counsel retained from time to time
  • Manage the City's Corporate risk
