2008 - Thunder Bay’s Kite Festival named one of the “Top 100 Ontario Festivals” by Festivals and Events Ontario.

2007- Thunder Bay named a “Youth Friendly” community as one of fourteen 2006 winners of the “Play Works Youth Friendly Community Recognition Program."

2006 - Thunder Bay receives Ontario Mainstreet Accessibility Award for "Outstanding achievement in establishing long term community partnerships to identify, remove and prevent barriers to accessibility."

2006- Thunder Bay’s Kite Festival named one of the “Top 50 Ontario Festivals” by Festivals and Events Ontario for fourth year in a row. 

2006 - Volunteer Coordinator Cheryl Armstrong named “Volunteer Administrator of the Year” (for the 3rd time) by the Thunder Bay Association of Volunteer Administrators.

2005 - Volunteer Coordinator Cheryl Armstrong named “Volunteer Administrator of the Year” by the Thunder Bay Association of Volunteer Administrators.

2005 - Thunder Bay’s Kite Festival named one of the “Top 50 Ontario Festivals” by Festivals and Events Ontario. 

2004 - Independent Living Resource Centre recognizes the City of Thunder Bay as an Outstanding Organization for demonstrating a significant commitment to the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of community life.

2004 - Thunder Bay’s Kite Festival named one of the “Top 50 Ontario Festivals” by Festivals and Events Ontario. 

2004 - Festivals and Events Ontario Achievement Award for “Best Newspaper Insert” in the $100,000 or less budget category for the Summer Events tabloid produced to promote Recreation & Culture's summer events. 

2003- Thunder Bay named a "Cultural Capital of Canada" by the Department of Canadian Heritage. The Cultural Capitals of Canada program publicly recognizes and rewards Canadian towns and cities that have demonstrated excellence in the field of arts and culture.

2003 - Thunder Bay Canada Day named one of the “Top 50 Ontario Festivals” by Festivals and Events Ontario.
