The Facilities & Fleet Department is responsible for the planning, operation and maintenance of City of Thunder Bay facilities and vehicles in keeping with the Corporate Asset Management Plan. This includes the management of capital works projects, asset management, energy management, operations and preventative maintenance programs, the corporate fleet training program and the design, construction, and commissioning of new facilities and facility renovation projects. The department also provides reliable, economical public transportation service.

Following the City's Strategic Plan, Initiative 17, the Facilities & Fleet Department has developed a Green Fleet Implementation Plan having the objective of a long term plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In December 2011 Thunder Bay City Council approved a Corporate Energy Management plan entitled “The Strategic Approach to Corporate Energy Management”. This plan outlines strategic initiatives that will be put into place to manage the Corporation’s energy use and create a Corporate culture to ensure the wise use of energy. The plan supports the 2011-2014 City of Thunder Bay Strategic Plan, Environmental Pillar –“A greener, more beautiful and proud Thunder Bay”.
