Driveway Applications

Driveway installations are controlled by the City Driveway Control Policy No. 11-02-04. This Policy can be searched and viewed in the City Policy and Procedure Database. The Policy outlines many of the requirements related to the location and construction of driveways, as well as information requirements related to submitting the application.

Applications can be made at the Infrastructure and Operations Department - Engineering Division located on the 2nd Fl. of the Victoriaville Civic Centre. A reference copy of the application form can be downloaded here. All driveway applications must be accompanied by a sketch of the proposed driveway location. The example sketch provided with the application form can be downloaded here.

Driveway permits that involve construction to be performed on the City street allowance will also require proof of insurance to be submitted, either by the applicant/home owner if they are doing the work themselves, or by the Contractor performing the work. Home owners must submit a copy of their home owner's insurance policy showing $2 million general liability insurance coverage and must also sign and submit a hold harmless agreement. Contractors must submit a Contractor certificate of insurance form with the appropriate work type and location description. The City maintains a list of all Contractors that have submitted insurance for the year.

The permit issued will include specific instructions regarding the construction standards to be followed. Typical standards that may apply to driveway construction include standard drawings R-109-1, R-109-3, R-119, R-121, R-124, R-125, and R-127. These standard drawings are including in the Engineering and Development Standards, which can be downloaded from here.

The length of time between submitting the application to processing the final permit typically ranges from 1-2 weeks, therefore submissions should be timed accordingly to avoid scheduling conflicts. If you have any questions you can contact the Engineering Division at 807-625-2266.
