Solid Waste & Recycling Services

The Solid Waste & Recycling Services Section is responsible for all aspects of waste management, including waste collection, recycling, waste disposal, program planning, and promotion and education for the residential, institutional, commercial and industrial sectors.

The Solid Waste & Recycling Services Section provides waste management services to approximately 37,035 single family and 9,910 multi-family households and coordinates these services through contracted collection and processing of recyclable materials, and the collection and landfilling of waste by municipal staff.


  • Fleet of 15 waste packers
  • Operates a 24-hour waste management hotline
  • Provides curbside collection of residential recycling and operates three residential recycling depots
  • Provides curbside collection of leaf and yard waste in both the spring and fall for residential customers
  • Provides pumpkin drop-off sites following Hallowe'en
  • Provides Christmas tree drop-off sites
  • Coordinates Treasure Exchange Days, a community re-use event in both the spring and fall
  • Provides curbside battery recycling services for residential customers once per year
  • The Household Hazardous Waste Depot, located at the City's Solid Waste & Recycling Facility, accepts household hazardous waste and electronic waste and is free for residents to use
  • The Solid Waste & Recycling Facility accepts leaf and yard waste, which is made into rich compost and is provided to residents free of charge each spring
