Therapeutic Recreation Assistant

POSITION TITLE:    Therapeutic Recreation Assistant 
(Relates to careers in Long Term Care, Hospitals, Parks & Recreation, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy)
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Community Services / Homes - Dawson Court 
SUPERVISOR: Lisa Tyance
LOCATION: 523 Algoma Street, North
PREFERRED TIME OF DAY:  Morning

GENERAL DUTIES:

Assists Recreation and Restorative Care staff with programs such as:

  • large and small groups to enhance residents leisure needs
  • 1:1 recreation programs
  • community integration
  • physiotherapy walking and exercise programs
  • planning recreation programs


    • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
    • good interpersonal skills
    • outgoing and confident to work within a team environment
    • must be able to work with minimal supervision
    • ability to self-motivate when training and orientation is complete
    • strong organizational skills
    • must be physically fit (i.e. lift or carry a specific weight; standing/walking on a constant basis; squatting/kneeling on a frequent basis; pushing wheelchairs required)
    • genuine interest in working with seniors
    • must be able to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner
    • must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software (Word, Excel, etc.)
    • mandatory "two-step" Mantoux TB skin test
