The City of Thunder Bay offers several funding opportunities to qualified bodies, within specified criteria and guidelines.
In December 2007, Thunder Bay City Council adopted a new model for Community & Cultural Funding. This new funding model replaces both the Financial Assistance Review Grant and the Cultural Funding program. The Funding Program has three components: sustaining grants, operating grants and project grants. A detailed grant application process is in place and each application is evaluated based on a criteria rating system.
The Event Development Grant supports not-for-profit groups with start-up and/or bidding costs associated with hosting inaugural or one-time events that are regional, provincial, national or international in scope.
STREET EVENT GRANT
The City's new Street Event Grant assists not-for-profit organizations with costs to use City streets for annual and championship sport tourism race events that require significant policing and notification to the public.
The City of Thunder Bay Medical Student Award recognizes and rewards local students who are studying medicine in Canada and who plan to train as family physicians and return to Thunder Bay to practice upon the completion of their training. In 2013 there will be four awards of $5,000. Applications must be received in full by Friday, June 14, 2013.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP FUNDING
In 2005, Thunder Bay City Council approved the Community Partnership Policy. This Policy provides direction with respect to the development of community partnerships for major capital projects between community groups and the City of Thunder Bay.
