In the Event of a Cupe Strike

The City of Thunder Bay’s largest union, CUPE Local 87, has advised there is a new strike deadline of 12:01 am on Monday, Nov. 7.

Services Unaffected In the event of a CUPE Strike

Police, Emergency Medical Services, Fire, Transit, and Homes for the Aged services are not affected. These services will generally continue to operate as usual.

Important Transit Notice
The South Core Transit Hub will move from City Hall to the North side of Donald Street, between Syndicate Avenue and McKellar Street.

Services AVAILABLE In the event of a CUPE Strike

In the event of a CUPE strike, key services including winter road maintenance will continue to be provided at a reduced level of service. Snow plowing will be prioritized for arterial roads, collector and bus routes. The Solid Waste & Recycling Facility and Recycling Depots will be available. Community Centres operated by volunteers are among the services that would also not be affected.

Services Unavailable in the event of a CUPE strike

  • Plowing or sanding of residential sidewalks or trails
  • Curbside garbage collection for residents, businesses and apartments
  • Day Care Centres (Grace Remus, Ogden, Algoma and Woodcrest Day Care Centres)
  • Canada Games Complex
  • Indoor Pools (Volunteer and Churchill)
  • Older Adults Centres (55 Plus and Older Adult Programs)
  • Conservatory
  • Fort William Gardens , Satellite Arenas (5) , Stadia (2) and Winter Rinks
  • All Community Recreation Programs/Special Events (Child, Youth, Adult)
  • Terry Fox Visitor Information Centre
