Statement of Commitment to First Nation Youth and Families

NAN FWFN COTBOn August 1, Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler of Nishnawbe Aski Nation, Chief Peter Collins of Fort William First Nation and Acting Mayor Joe Virdiramo of the City of Thunder Bay signed a tri-partite Statement of Commitment to demonstrate their commitment to peaceful co-existence and reconciliation.

The signing ceremony was held on Fort William First Nation – signatory to the Robinson Superior Treaty of 1850.

"As leaders of Fort William First Nation, the City of Thunder Bay and Nishnawbe Aski Nation, we are united in our commitment to peaceful co-existence and reconciliation. We recognize the urgent need to improve relations among the Indigenous population who reside in and visit the City to access education, medical and health care, employment, cultural and recreation activities, and the non-Indigenous population."
