June 10, 2009 – Chapples and Strathcona Golf Courses have received notification from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario that their application for a new licence has been approved as of June 9. It is anticipated that the licence for Municipal Golf Course will be approved within the next week.
“We are really pleased to get this notification,” says Tom Forsythe, Director of Golf for the City of Thunder Bay. “It took us a little longer than we anticipated to get, but it is something that our golfers have told us they want and will support. We look forward to being able to provide them with that service.”
The provision of food and beverage services at all three City-owned golf courses is being provided by the Foxx Denn and its owner Jon Essa. Mr. Essa’s company was awarded the concession contract this spring after a Request for Proposal was issued in April.
“We expect that the Foxx Denn will do a very good job in providing this increased level of service to our customers,” says Forsythe. "They have purchased five utility carts to provide food and beverage service to golfers on the courses and are implementing a number of practices that will make it very convenient for our golfers to use the service."
