Complex Pool to Reopen Two Days Ahead of Schedule

December 18, 2008 – After being closed for the biannual maintenance shutdown, the Canada Games Complex pool will reopen two days ahead of schedule, just in time for the holiday season. The Complex pool and jogging track will reopen to the public Saturday, Dec. 20. Fitness facilities reopened on Monday, Dec. 15.

This year’s maintenance shutdown took place in December to accommodate the National Diving and Provincial Swimming Championships that were held in July.

During the shutdown:

  • The pool was drained, acid washed and 4,800 square feet of the pool were re-grouted
  • The pool deck and all locker and shower rooms were treated with a slip resistant “Safeguard Process”
  • The pool’s pump, motor and chlorine feeder were overhauled
  • The pool water heat exchanger was replaced
  • Pool light fixtures were repaired
  • Electrical Master Control Unit was replaced
  • Tiling and flooring was replaced and upgraded in the men’s and women’s shower rooms and fitness hallways
  • Lockers were replaced in the members’ female locker room
  • Duct work replacement was initiated as part of the locker room HVAC replacement scheduled for March 09
  • The Complex also received a general cleaning, waxing and painting overhaul

Regular hours of operation are effective Saturday, Dec. 20, with public/recreational swims scheduled everyday over the holiday season.  The facility is only closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.  For more information call 684-3311 or visit the website at www.gamescomplex.com.
