Habitat ReStore to Collect Used Items at Landfill Sept. 25 - 30
Date: September 22, 2017
Time: 9:57 AM

September 22, 2017 – ReStore Week at the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility on Mapleward Road will take place from Monday, Sept. 25 to Saturday, Sept. 30. During this special week, residents visiting the landfill can donate gently used building materials, appliances, cabinets, furniture, tools, plumbing and electrical materials to Habitat for Humanity’s tent - located after the weigh scales, near the public drop-off bins. Habitat Volunteers will be on site at the Landfill accepting any of the reusable household items

“This will be the second ReStore Week event of the year, aimed at preventing re-usable items from being buried in the landfill site,” said Dan Stezenko, CEO of Habitat for Humanity. “In May, the ReStore Week event diverted 4,980 kg from the Landfill. We hope to have a similar success during this ReStore Week.”

This initiative supports the City’s Solid Waste Management Strategy, which specifies forming community partnerships to reduce and re-use waste. Donating and shopping at the Habitat ReStore helps Habitat for Humanity build affordable homes in our community.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with the Habitat for Humanity ReStore with this special, week-long collection,” said Jason Sherband, the City’s Manager of Solid Waste & Recycling Services. “If you have a used item and don’t make it out during the event, make sure to drop it off to the ReStore at 660 Squier Street.”
