Halloween Treats to be Handed Out in Areas Across City
Date: October 27, 2017
Time: 8:52 AM
Email Event

October 27, 2016 - It started as a community prayer and unity walk on June 1, 2017, to honour the memory of all the youths that passed. On Sept. 29, 2017, North Caribou Lake First Nation, Fort William First Nation, City of Thunder Bay and Thunder Bay Police Service signed a Friendship Agreement to work together to strengthen Indigenous relations through co-operation in community development, public safety, anti-racism, education and social and cultural awareness.

Particular emphasis will be put on reducing the risk of exploitation, neglect, abuse and violence for First Nation students leaving their families and homes to attend high school in Thunder Bay. This Agreement aspires to creating a safe and nurturing environment so that First Nation youths can realize their dreams and full potential.

The first of many grassroots initiatives for this Agreement is to become more involved and build relations with those families, children and youths living in the lower-income neighbourhoods. On Saturday, Oct. 28, all four signatories look forward to an afternoon of handing out Halloween treats to residents living in the Picton area, Limrick area and Shelter House.

The neighbourhood locations and schedules are as follows:

1 - 2 pm - Picton Area (288 Windsor Place, Unit 16)
2:30 - 3:30 pm - Limbrick Area - Kinsmen Centre
4 - 5 pm - Shelter House

All residents of these neighbourhoods are welcome to visit these locations for some Halloween treats. Dressing up in Halloween costumes is optional. A fire truck pumper and staff will be available for the children to enjoy at Kinsmen Centre and Shelter House.

Photo opportunities and interviews for the media will be available at the Kinsmen Centre between 2:30 and 3:30 PM. The signatories are also in the planning stages of many other grassroots initiatives for First Nation children and youths.

A special thanks to North Star Air for their generous donation. Happy Halloween and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
