I Heart Bike Lanes Celebration this Saturday

May 27, 2010 – Bike lanes have arrived in Thunder Bay and to recognize the occasion, a celebration has been planned. Everyone is invited to come and try out the new bike lanes.

When: Saturday, May 29 from 10 am until 4 pm
Where: Bay Street from Secord to Machar Avenue
Who: Everyone who likes to ride bikes

The City of Thunder Bay launched the first dedicated bike lane on Court Street from Fort William Road to Boulevard Lake today. The Active Transportation Committee has planned a celebration of the new lanes. Bay Street from Secord Street to Machar Avenue will be closed to vehicles from 10 am until 4 pm so that vendors, food and live music can be set up for the day. There will be free bike demonstrations by local bicycle shops, guided rides on the bike lane, and you can even decorate your bike at the decoration booth.

At noon a mass ride will be held on Thunder Bay’s first dedicated bike lane on Court Street. This family-friendly event has something for everyone.

“Come out and join us,” said Adam Krupper, Active Transportation Coordinator, City of Thunder Bay/EcoSuperior. “Learn about how bike lanes work and about the Active Transportation plan. Have a great time with local vendors and organizations.  Bring your family for the mass ride.  And show your support for Active Transportation in Thunder Bay.You’ll have a great time!”
