August 25, 2009 – The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that Mayor Lynn Peterson has been re-elected to the 2009-2010 Board of Directors of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) at its 110th Annual Conference in Ottawa. Mayor Peterson was re-elected as Chair of the Large Urban Caucus.
"I am thrilled to return in this leadership position and continue bringing the voice of a large urban, northern community to the table as AMO works with the government in municipal policy development," said Mayor Lynn Peterson.
“AMO’s board of Directors benefits from membership from across the Province, reflecting the diversity of Ontario’s municipal governments,” said Peter Hume, President – AMO. “To that end, I am pleased that Mayor Peterson is returning as Chair of the Large Urban Caucus. The Board will continue its efforts to see properly funded municipal governments.”
AMO’s key advocacy priorities are focused on achieving fiscal sustainability for municipal governments and strengthening municipal legislative authority to advance local economic well being and environmental sustainability.
AMO is a non-profit organization representing almost all of Ontario's 445 municipal governments. The mandate of the organization is to support and enhance strong and effective municipal government in Ontario. It promotes the value of the municipal level of government as a vital and essential component of Ontario's and Canada's political systems.
