March 25, 2010 – Subject to confirmation by City Council on Monday, Thunder Bay Transit’s South Core Brodie Terminal will close permanently at the end of the day on Tuesday, April 6, and a temporary on-street terminal at City Hall using Donald, May and Brodie Streets will open on Wednesday, April 7.
As part of a Provincial agreement, the Brodie Street Terminal and adjacent parking lots are being demolished to prepare for the development of the new Consolidated Provincial Courthouse.
The Brodie Terminal will be replaced by a temporary site at City Hall, which will include bus shelters placed on the site for passengers. Effective the week of March 29, parking will be removed on the City Hall side of Donald Street, May Street and Brodie Street until further notice.
The City Hall location was selected as an interim solution while a temporary site is being prepared on North Street and vicinity. A budget has been prepared for the North Street site which will include sidewalks, curbing and lighting. A brochure is being distributed in the neighbourhood today that covers important topics including: site security; pedestrian access; safety and amenities; site capacity; operational impact; site access and traffic impact; set up logistics and area impact. Comment or feedback can be provided by email to caubut@thunderbay.ca or by telephone to 684-2188.
A system-wide route and operational review of the Transit system will be conducted in 2010 to determine a permanent solution.
Staff will be stationed at the Water Street terminal and at City Hall, starting on March 31, to allow citizens the opportunity to ask questions about the interim and temporary sites. Staff will be stationed at the City Hall site for a period of time to assist passengers with the transition.
