December 12, 2008 – Thunder Bay Transit, the Thunder Bay Food Bank and the United Way are teaming up to spread goodwill in our community with the 9th Annual Thunder Bay Transit Food Drive Campaign.
On Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 6 am - 4 pm, everyone is invited to drop off dry and can goods for the Thunder Bay Food Bank on any City bus or at the Water Street or Brodie Street Terminals. Last year’s donations filled three buses. This year our goal is to fill a fourth.
Thunder Bay Food Bank supplies emergency help to people in need, and when possible, helps other organizations with food supply. The need is always greater in the winter and especially over the holidays.
Also on Dec. 17, the Santa Bus will be travelling throughout Thunder Bay with a special guest. This is the 14th year Santa Claus has taken time out of his busy schedule to join Thunder Bay Transit, giving him an opportunity to greet our passengers and spread cheer in the community. Santa will be on most routes throughout the day - a detailed schedule will be published on Saturday, Dec. 13. All fares and donations placed in the Santa Bus will be donated to the United Way. Everyone is invited to come and greet Santa, and his helper, who will be handing out candy canes to children.
Both the Santa Bus and the Christmas Food Campaign, are opportunities for Transit employees to join the public to bring joy and happiness to others this holiday season.
Thunder Bay Transit Food Drive Campaign 2008 is supported by Thunder Bay Transit, the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 966, the Thunder Bay Food Bank and the United Way.
