Welcoming Home Students in Health Care

December 23, 2008– There’s no place like home!; is the message students will hear at the City of Thunder Bay’s 8th Annual “Home for the Holidays” Health Care Student Reception on Tuesday, Dec. 30.

"Reaching out to the next generation of health professionals is just one way our community can help in the recruitment and retention effort," said Mayor Lynn Peterson.  "We need to let them know that opportunities exist in Thunder Bay and encourage them to pursue careers here at home as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, technologists and therapists."

Hosted by the City of Thunder Bay, students home for the holidays are invited to meet with local health care representatives to talk about future employment opportunities.

“Students will be able to network with our local health care employers and talk about job opportunities in many health care field,” said Cheryl Armstrong, Community Relations Coordinator. “This event is the City’s way of letting our young people know that we want them to return to live and work in Thunder Bay when they complete their course of study.”

The “Home for the Holidays” Health Care Student Reception is an annual event held during the holiday season for Thunder Bay students in medicine or other health care fields, studying in Thunder Bay and other communities. The Reception is designed to encourage those students who have chosen to study health care to return or stay “home” to pursue their careers.
