2010 Santa Bus Delivered for Those in Need

December 13, 2010 – The 16th Annual Santa Bus campaign, organized by the City of Thunder Bay – Transit Division and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 966 closed on Saturday, Dec. 11. With collection bins on every bus and various bins throughout the City, the Santa Bus was able to collect 1290 pounds of food for the Thunder Bay Food Bank. Fares and donations collected on the Santa Bus on Friday, Dec. 10, totaled $2,000 for the United Way.

“It was unbelievable to see the generosity of Thunder Bay,” said Jon Hendel, spokesperson for Thunder Bay Transit. “Anyone who came on Saturday to see the Santa Bus was in awe of the sheer amount of food.”

Being the first year that the food has been weighed, there are no benchmarks to measure against, but many believe that this has been one of the largest collections in the 16 year history of Santa Bus.

After the results were announced, Charlie Brown, President – Amalgamated Transit Union Local 966, also presented the Thunder Bay Food Bank with a cheque for $500 on behalf of his constituency.

Thank you to all those involved in making Santa Bus 2010 a huge success!
