2013 Thunder Bay Experience Magazine Now Available

December 21, 2012 – The 2013 Thunder Bay Experience Magazine, the official tourism guide for the City of Thunder Bay and area, is now available in both digital and print beginning this weekend, just in time for local residents to share with friends and family who are visiting this Christmas season from outside of the city.

The free, 88-page annual magazine is a comprehensive guide to the four seasons of great events, attractions, accommodations and culinary experiences in and around the city.  This year’s expanded guide features interesting stories about the community’s cultural, culinary and natural environment attractions, a tear-out transit, trails and street map insert to help visitors explore more of the city and a regional event listing, bringing neighboring communities together through a new regional marketing partnership.  

“Christmas is a time when we see an upswing in visitors arriving to spend the holidays with family and friends, and it’s a great time to release the new guide and encourage local residents to play the role of ambassadors, show them around the city and learn a little more about our own community gems as well,” said Paul Anthony Pepe, Manager of Tourism for the City. “The online and print guide plays a key role in enticing visitors to see more of the city, stay a little longer and return in the future.  Tourism is a $127 million annual industry for the community and even as little as ten dollars in additional spending per visitor can expand the tourism economy by $5.2 million annually.”  

The guide is available beginning this weekend at the Terry Fox Visitor Information Centre, Thunder Bay International Airport and major hotels and attractions throughout the city. The guide is also available online at

Holiday hours for the Terry Fox Visitor Centre sees the center open through this weekend, closing at noon Dec. 24.  It will reopen on Dec. 27 from 9 am to 5 pm daily, closing at noon on Dec. 31 and re-opening Jan. 2 at 9 am.

Thunder Bay Experience is funded through the partnership of over 45 advertising partners who provide advertising and editorial content, and 100,000 print copies are distributed annually through visitor information centers in Ontario, Manitoba, and Minnesota, consumer and industry trade shows, travel media outlets and in convention delegate packages.  The digital guide is downloaded over 15,000 times annually.
