Accessibility Open Houses Sept. 19 & 20

September 16, 2011 – The City of Thunder Bay’s Accessibility Advisory Committee will be hosting two open house events to share information with the community about the committee’s roles and accomplishments. The events are set for:

  • September 19, 2011: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre
  • September 20, 2011: 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm at the Victoria Inn and Conference Centre

The public are invited to attend either or both of these events for a presentation from Tessa Soderberg, Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee about the committee’s role in helping to make City of Thunder facilities and services barrier free for people with disabilities.

"The Accessibility Advisory Committee is a valuable link between the City of Thunder Bay and the community,” says Ms. Soderberg. “The membership of the committee provides the City with an understanding of the issues faced by citizens of Thunder Bay who have disabilities. Our direct link with Council via their representative ensures the voice of the disabled community is heard."

The Open House will also feature a presentation about best practices in accessibility by Christine Karcza, a disability advocate and consultant from Toronto with over 30 years of experience.

“As a person with a disability I have a passion for supporting communities towards the creation of truly accessible and inclusive communities,” said Christine Karcza.
