Canada Day Fireworks to be Used for Waterfront Opening Event

July 29, 2011 – The remainder of the Canada Day fireworks that were suspended due to inclement
weather will be featured at the Waterfront Grand Re-opening to be held later this year.

The Grand Re-opening of the Waterfront will be an exciting event for our community and worthy of a
fantastic fireworks show. This event will be free to attend and will draw significant community
interest.  The fireworks display will help the Grand Opening to be truly spectacular and memorable.

Incorporating the fireworks into an existing event like Summer in the Parks was considered but the
Waterfront Grand Opening was deemed more suitable. Also, Summer in the Parks would have
required additional staff, security and funding to extend their evening program until dusk for the
fireworks.

Dates are not yet set for the Waterfront Opening Event but it is anticipated that it will be held in
December. Planning for the event is in the preliminary stages. More details about the celebration will be announced over the next several months.
