Chief Administrative Officer Leaving City

January 29, 2008 - Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Robert Petrie, has advised City Council he will be resigning, effective March 25, to accept the position of CAO for the Town of Whitby, Ontario.

It has been a pleasure to work with Bob over these past six years, said Mayor Lynn Peterson. He has made a significant contribution to helping Council build the foundation for Thunder Bay as one of the best-run cities in Canada. His successor will have a great base on which to build.

Mr. Petrie was appointed Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Thunder Bay in September 2003, after 19 months as Acting CAO. Originally from Windsor, Mr. Petrie joined the City of Thunder Bay in April 2001 as the General Manager of Transportation & Works.

Over the past six years it has been my pleasure and privilege to learn much about Northwestern Ontario, particularly the City of Thunder Bay, and work with three different Councils to improve on the many important services delivered by this municipality, said Mr. Petrie. I am very proud of the many improvements I have been able to assist Council and Administration in achieving. There have been many difficult decisions to make and all have risen to the occasion to do what is best for this community.

Mr. Petrie said he believes Thunder Bay has a very bright future powered by the drive and determination of its residents.

An acting CAO will be appointed by Council. An announcement will be made when that decision is reached followed by a competition to fill the position of CAO.
