Christmas Tree Chipping Sites Open Boxing Day

December 23, 2009 – Reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill this year by chipping your tree instead of throwing it out. After the holiday season is over, residents are asked to recycle natural Christmas trees at one of Thunder Bay’s 10 Christmas tree chipping sites. The wood chips will turn to compost that can be used to beautify Thunder Bay gardens in the spring.

North drop-off locations:

  • Brent Park (Balsam Street at Margaret Street)
  • County Park Tennis Court (County Boulevard.)
  • Grandview Arena (Madeline Street in between Grandview Arena and Westminster United Church – not in the arena parking lot)
  • John Jumbo Gardens Recreation Centre (Toivo Street)
  • Strathcona Golf Course

South drop-off locations:

  • Delaney Arena (Legion Track Drive at the back of the arena, not in the main parking lot)
  • Kinsmen Northwood Centre (609 N. James St)
  • Lakehead Labour Centre (Fort William Road)
  • Westfort Playing Field (off Neebing Avenue)
  • West Thunder Community Centre (915 S. Edward St)

Please remove all ornaments and tinsel from the tree before bringing it to the chipping site. If you use a plastic tree bag to transport your tree, take it away with you.  Do not leave trees at the recycling depots or put them out at the curb for collection.

Drop-off sites will be open from Dec. 26 until Jan. 9. There is no charge for tree chipping.
