City Cleaning Up after Heavy Rains

May 23, 2013 – The majority of roads and trails affected by the recent weather events, are drying up and are now reopened. The heavy rainfall over the long weekend closed some City streets, trails and the Chippewa Park, Campground & RV Park, and the Chippewa Wildlife Exhibit due to ponding and flooding.

The following are now reopened:

  • Chippewa Campground & RV Trailer Park and the Wildlife Exhibit
  • Melbourne Road (was closed between Hilldale and Hazelwood)
  • Toms Road (was closed north of John Street)
  • Mapleward Road (was closed between Arthur and Highway 11/17,
  • All recreation trails in the City, with the exception of the trail under the Edward Street Bridge which will remain closed until water recedes and cleanup is complete.

Arundel Street remains closed near Toledo Street for road repairs and will reopen once necessary repairs are complete. Kline Road Extension also remains closed.

Water levels in area rivers and creeks remain high and residents are urged to stay safe and use extreme caution around waterways.
