City Council Invites Input as Budget 2009 Gets Underway


January 30, 2009 – The City of Thunder Bay’s 2009 Budget process is underway and City Council welcomes input from residents.

"I am very pleased with the work done by City administration and representatives of our affiliated boards and agencies in preparing a fiscally responsible Budget for Council review," said Tim Commisso, City Manager. "We recognize the current global economic challenges and we have placed a high priority on maintaining citizen services and carefully planned capital spending. I look forward to working with Council to finalize the 2009 Budget in the weeks to come.”

To learn more about the City’s Budget, residents are encouraged to start with the Budget ’09 Community Workbook. The Workbook is available at the Office of the City Clerk, branches of the Thunder Bay Public Library and online at www.thunderbay.ca/budget. The Workbook invites residents to comment on the Budget.

The proposed Budget is available for review at www.thunderbay.ca/budget, or at the Office of the City Clerk which, during City Hall renovations, is located in Victoriaville Mall, 111 S. Syndicate Ave.

There are three specific ways to provide input:

1. Comment – now through Feb. 9
Using the comments section of the workbook or the online feedback form at www.thunderbay.ca/budget

2. Public Input Session – Wednesday, Feb. 11, 6:30 pm
Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.
There is no need to register in advance.
Each speaker will have up to 10 minutes to give their opinions.
Residents are asked to call 625-2230, Office of the City Clerk, for more information.

3. Final Public Input Session – Wednesday, March 11, 6:30 pm (Subject to completion of the Budget review on March 10)
Thunder Bay Community Auditorium
There is no need to register in advance.

Council’s review of the proposed Budget is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 18, 5:30 pm at the Community Auditorium, Tuesday, March 3, 5:30 pm at the Current River Recreation Centre, and Tuesday, March 10, 5:30 pm at the Community Auditorium.
