City Invites Online Comments for Proposed Event Centre

March 1, 2012 – The Open House & Information Session on the Proposed Thunder Bay Event Centre that was held the evening of Feb. 29 had over 350 people in attendance, and attracted over 350 unique followers on the live stream.

To further improve engagement, there will be an Online Open House available until March 15 where residents can view the materials from the Open House and fill out the questionnaire.

“We are looking for views, comments and suggestions from those that could not attend by providing all of the information on our website,” said Michael Smith, General Manager of Facilities & Fleet. “The goal is to provide a higher level of understanding of the Proposed Event Centre to the community.”

The Consulting Team presented concept designs for the three sites (Innova Business Park, Downtown/Waterfront and Thunder Bay International Airport) identified by the City of Thunder Bay, provided information on the economic impact on the region, and provided information on vehicular site access and parking.

“In my view, it was a very successful Open House and the largest I have ever been a part of,” said Conrad Boychuk, Consulting Team Lead from CEI Architecture. “I was very pleased with the turnout.”

There will be an update to City Council on March 12 from the Consulting Team. A second open house will be held on April 11. The Consulting Team will make a recommendation to City Council as to a preferred site in late May, followed by a third open house in early June.

The Online Open House is available on the City’s website at www.thunderbay.ca/eventcentre.
