City Kicks Off 17th Annual United Way Employee Campaign

October 4, 2012 – Employees from the City of Thunder Bay, The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB), Superior North EMS (SNEMS), the Thunder Bay Public Library and Tbaytel proudly kicked off the 2012 United Way Employee Campaign today at the 17th Annual Kick-Off Luncheon for the United Way.

More than 500 municipal employees regularly attend this annual event and this year the numbers grew as Tbaytel employees also came out to show their support. The event was held from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the C.L.E. Heritage Building on May Street and provided employees an opportunity to gather for a delicious Octoberfest in support of the 2012 United Way Campaign.

“I am delighted to see employees from across the Corporation and Tbaytel come together to support the United Way and help launch our Annual Campaign at this luncheon,” said Carol Busch, City Treasurer and General Manager – Finance & Corporate Services, and Chair of the Municipal Division United Way Campaign. “We sincerely thank our fellow employees for demonstrating compassion through their ongoing support for the United Way.”

Last year employees of the City of Thunder Bay, Superior North EMS and the District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB) proudly pledged a total of $181,950 to the United Way, and additionally Tbaytel's contribution exceeded $45,000.

"It is our hope that this year we will see even more employees participating, and that those who already participate increase their contributions to reach our goal of $187,800, and the Tbaytel goal of $45,000," said Busch.

The Municipal Division United Way employee campaign is organized by more than 150 volunteers with support from many others. Employees contribute through payroll deduction, Dress Down/Different days, and special events including the Kick-Off Luncheon, Spaghetti Dinner & Auction, Mayor’s Mulligan Golf Tournament and various Departmental events.
