City Kicks off Employee United Way Campaign for 2011

September 29, 2011 –Employees from the City of Thunder Bay, The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB), Superior North EMS (SNEMS) and the Thunder Bay Public Library proudly kicked off their 2011 United Way Employee Campaign today at the 16th Annual Kick-Off Luncheon for the United Way.

The event, in support of the 2011 United Way Campaign, was held from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the CLE Heritage Building on May Street and provided employees with an opportunity to gather for lunch in support of the United Way. Meals were served by Celebrity City, DSSAB, SNEMS and Thunder Bay Public Library servers, which included several General Managers, Managers and City Councillors. More than 500 employees attend this event each year.

“I am so pleased to see employees from across the Corporation come together each year to support the United Way and help launch our annual campaign at this luncheon,” said Carol Busch, City Treasurer and General Manager – Finance & Corporate Services, and Chair of the Municipal Division United Way Campaign.

“We sincerely thank our fellow employees for demonstrating compassion through their ongoing support for the United Way.”

Last year employees of the City of Thunder Bay, Superior North EMS and the District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB) proudly pledged a total of $175,045.19 to the United Way, an increase of $10,310 over the 2009 total.

“It is our hope that this year we will see even more employees participating, and that those who already participate increase their contributions,” said Busch.

The United Way employee campaign is organized by more than 150 volunteers with support from many others. Employees contribute through payroll deduction, Dress Down/Different days, and special events including the Kick-Off Luncheon, Pink Pajama Party, Spaghetti Dinner & Auction, Mayor’s Mulligan Golf Tournament and various departmental events.
