City Operating at Capacity as Forest Fire Reception Centre

Aug. 1, 2012 – The City of Thunder Bay is operating at capacity for the forest fire evacuation and no further arrivals are expected to the city.

Thunder Bay is hosting 552 Sandy Lake First Nation residents who were evacuated due to forest fires burning in the Northwest region.

“Being evacuated from your home is a challenging experience,” said Mayor Keith Hobbs. “We are working with the leaders of Sandy Lake First Nation to provide a safe and comfortable place for those who have been displaced from their homes during this emergency.”

In cooperation with Emergency Management Ontario and its partner agencies, the City’s Emergency Operations Control Group continues to monitor the situation.
