City Resources Busy Clearing Main Streets

January 4, 2009 – The City of Thunder Bay is using all its resources to deal with the snowfall accumulation and blowing snow as it clears arterial streets. City crews have plowed the main streets once overnight but many of the main streets have blown in with snow and are being plowed again this morning.

Mainlines may have to be plowed again and there will be some delay before crews can move into clearing residential streets. Residential streets will initially be cleared on one side only. Plows will return later to clear snow from the rest of the road. Work will begin on sidewalks today, but it will be several days before all sidewalks can be cleared.

The public is advised to use extreme caution on City streets today and refrain from driving unless it is absolutely necessary.

Calendar and Priority Winter Parking Regulations are in effect. Residents are asked to note the restrictions posted in their neighbourhoods. No one should be parked on arterial and collector streets between 2 am and 7 am.

Continuing snowfall and high winds are creating very hazardous driving conditions. Listen to the media for further updates.
