City Selected to Participate in Fleet Challenge Ontario

January 14, 2008 - The City of Thunder Bay has been selected as one of 12 Ontario municipalities to participate in Fleet Challenge Ontario, a program that aims to reduce fleet fuel consumption and harmful emissions while working toward a greener Ontario. The City of Thunder Bay was selected from 53 applicants as a result of its data management systems related to fleet management.

City Council and Administration are very pleased to have been selected as participants in the Fleet Challenge Ontario program, said Mayor Lynn Peterson. We have been working hard to green our fleet and improve operating efficiency. We welcome this opportunity to make further progress.

This new program will assist Ontario municipalities in reducing their fleet fuel consumption, operating costs and tailpipe emissions through sharing of modern fleet management techniques and proven best management practices. The program is provided at no cost to participating municipalities and consists of three initiatives:

1.   An in-depth and leading edge E3® Fleet Review
2.   Participation in fleet management workshops in early 2008
3.   Development of a Best Practices Manual for improving fleet efficiencies

The Fleet Challenge Ontario program has been made possible through the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and the Ontario Ministry of Finance through the Strengthening Our Partnerships initiative.
