City Urges Caution for Cyclists and Motorists

May 2, 2013  – Due to the unseasonal weather conditions, the City of Thunder Bay is urging cyclists and motorists to ride and drive with extra caution. Thunder Bay’s bike lanes officially opened on Wednesday, May 1, and will remain open for the season despite changes in weather conditions.

“There are people whose only mode of transportation is a bicycle, so we can expect cyclists to still be on the roads,” said Adam Krupper, City of Thunder Bay Active Transportation Coordinator. “Motorists and cyclist should exercise extra care when we experience snow and other weather conditions that impact our streets.”

Due to the extended winter season, Road Crews have been busy managing winter road conditions. Dependent on the weather, the Roads Division expects to begin sweeping bike lanes as soon as next week.
