Congratulations to Shannon on Appointment to Order of Ontario

January 25, 2011 – Mayor Keith Hobbs congratulates Thunder Bay lawyer Dave Shannon on the announcement he is being named to the Order of Ontario for his commitment to policy and legal advocacy for the protection of human rights and community inclusion for person with disabilities.

“The Order of Ontario is a well-deserved appointment to David Shannon, an esteemed member of our community,” said Mayor Hobbs.

As a founding Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Council of Ontario and a member of the Ontario Human Rights Tribunalm, Shannon has a passionate commitment for human rights and community service. He has led through example with tremendous personal achievements, becoming the first quadriplegic to reach the North Pole with ‘Team Independence 09’ and trekking 9,000 kms across Canada in 1997 to promote empowerment for disenfranchised communities and greater social inclusion for all Canadians.

Shannon will be invested by the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, during a ceremony at Queen’s Park on Jan. 27. The Order of Ontario is the province’s highest honour, recognizing individual excellence and achievement. Nominations for the Order of Ontario are made by members of the public.
