September 28, 2010 – The community breakfast to learn about the newly forming Thunder Bay Crime Prevention Council on Wednesday, Sept. 29, will be available through a live video stream at www.netnewsledger.com for interested members of the public who can’t attend.

The inaugural event begins at 7:30 am. The Crime Prevention Council is currently being established at the direction of City Council.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Irvin Waller with the University of Ottawa who will share practical and collaborative ways for cities to reduce crime, prevent victimization and foster sustained community safety. Dr. Waller is the author of the influential Less Law, More Order: The Truth about Reducing Crime.

With the Institute for the Prevention of Crime at the University of Ottawa, he instigated the National Municipal Network on Community Safety and produced the popular Action Briefs for Municipal Stakeholders.

Following the event, a link to the video will also be available at www.thunderbay.ca/civicevents to give residents another opportunity to view the inaugural event and Dr. Waller’s keynote address.
