Dates Revised for Event Centre Phase 2 Feasibility Study

May 24, 2012 – The Phase 2 Feasibility Study for the Proposed Thunder Bay Event Centre will be presented to City Council in September instead of June to allow the consulting team additional time to finalize its work.

“The consulting team has asked for additional time to fine-tune the preliminary facility designs and integrate the overall capital and net operating costs," said City Manager Tim Commisso, who added that the revised schedule does not affect the budget for the study.

"Given the importance of the study, we need to allow the consulting team the time required to prepare the detailed feasibility information for review by City Council and the public," the City Manager said. "We are committed to public engagement and, since more time is required, we are moving this report into September rather than over the summer when many people are unable to participate in the process."

Following are the key revised dates:

Monday, Sept. 10 - The consultant's Phase 2 Feasibility Study and recommendations will be presented as a First Report, providing Council and the general public time to consider the implications of the Report.

Late September - A final public Open House and Information Session will be held for interested members of the public to hear about the findings and recommendations directly from the consulting team prior to Council formally considering the Report.

Monday, Oct. 15 - The Phase 2 Feasibility Study and recommendations from the consultants will be considered by City Council.

Led by Conrad Boychuk of CEI Architecture, the consulting team has been responsible for reviewing the development opportunities for each of the three sites, assessing the economic impact, analyzing the traffic and parking issues, and developing an overall capital and net operating cost estimate for the development of the sites.
