Event Centre Public Information Session Well Attended

November 22, 2012 – The Public Information Session on the Phase 2 Feasibility Study on a Proposed Thunder Bay Event Centre that was held last night at the Community Auditorium had over 400 people attend and 545 followers on the live stream.

“The Consulting Team continue to be impressed by the consistently high level of attendance and participation at these events, and last night provided us an opportunity to outline the costs, benefits, and opportunities associated with the Downtown/Waterfront location,” said Conrad Boychuk, Lead Consultant, CEI Architecture.

“There is a growing awareness that the new facility is about opportunity and transformation - parking is just part of the discussion. What is being proposed is significant and the community discussion promises to be an exciting one.”

The consulting team presented its recommendation as to a preferred site, a more detailed concept design for that site, an economic impact assessment, a detailed traffic and parking assessment, and an order-of-cost magnitude cost estimate for the overall project.

The completed study was presented to Council on Oct. 15 as a first report. Subject to City Council’s approval of the Phase 2 Feasibility Study on Nov. 26, the proposed next step will see the development of a “Project-Ready Plan” including detailed facility plan and financial/business plan (Phase 3).
