Fall Curbside Leaf & Garden Waste Collection

October 31, 2008 – The City of Thunder Bay's fall curbside collection of organic leaf and garden waste for city residents begins Tuesday, Nov. 4 and continues until Friday, Nov. 14. Look for the leaf symbol on your Waste Collection Calendar to determine your collection day. Leaf and yard waste collection takes place on your regular recycling day during this two-week period.

Homeowners are encouraged to use Kraft paper bags, available at many local hardware, department and grocery stores. Kraft bags are best as they turn into compost too. Clear plastic garden waste bags and Halloween leaf bags may also be left out for pick up. There is no bag limit on leaf and yard waste.

Branches and twigs left for collection should be bundled in lengths no longer than 1 metre (three feet).  Place organic leaf and yard waste a few feet away from other recycling and regular garbage at the curb. Grass clippings will not be accepted.

Drop off your Halloween pumpkins in special bins set up at the Lakehead Labour Centre, County Fair Plaza and the Westfort Playfield from November 1-10.
ReCool Canada Inc. provides the curbside leaf collection service and delivers the organic waste to the municipal composting site, located at the John Street Road Landfill.

Questions about collection may be directed to Recool at 577-0411. Garbage and recyclables must be at the curb before 7 am on collection day.
