Fire Rescue Moves Neebing Crew and Trucks to Interim Location

February 18, 2010 –Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has temporarily moved its Neebing Fire Station resources including personnel, equipment and pumper, into the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) Fire Service Centre at 1580 Arthur St West as of this afternoon.

The Neebing Fire Station on 20th Sideroad was closed Feb. 10 for health and safety reasons after mould was confirmed by a Microbiological Analysis. The interim location which will be used until further notice provides a truck bay for the pumper and living quarters for staff.

“We are pleased to be able to operate out of the MNR fire base,” said Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hankkio. “This is the best possible, alternate location to be able to serve the Neebing area and we are grateful to the MNR for allowing us to move in with them temporarily. We are continuing to closely monitor response times, and are responding to emergencies with the same level of resources as per our usual deployment plan.”

The Neebing Fire Station building is under investigation and a course of action is being developed. No estimate is currently available regarding the time required for the temporary relocation.
