Fire Rescue Service Announces Upcoming Firefighter Test

January 15, 2010 – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue will be holding a preliminary Firefighter Recruitment Written Test at 10 am, Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Lakehead University. 

“Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is continually working on building a diverse, innovative, nationally recognized Fire-Rescue Service committed to ongoing quality service to our citizens and community,” said Fire Chief John Hay. “I encourage anyone interested in joining our team to prepare themselves, take advantage of this opportunity and come out and take the test.”

Applicants interested in becoming a firefighter are encouraged to attend one of the following Firefighter Recruitment Information Sessions:

  • Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010 – 7 pm
    Confederation College
    Lecture Theatre-Room 351
  • Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010 – 7 pm
    Thunder Bay and District Protective & Emergency Services Training Centre
    750 Hammond Ave

These sessions will include information on what a firefighter does and what it takes to become one. A Candidate Preparation Manual is available at the information sessions or at the Vickers Street Fire Station, 330 Vickers Street North, weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for a $5 fee.

All interested testing applicants are to report to the Agora of Lakehead University between 9 am and 10 am on Saturday, March 6 to write the test; latecomers will not be permitted. Only the first 500 applicants will be accepted. There is a $40, cash only, fee to write the test. Applicants must provide both photo and signature I.D. (e.g. valid driver's licence) on the day of the test.  Applicants not providing proper I.D. will not be considered for employment.

Job descriptions for the position of Firefighter are available at Human Resources or at The City of Thunder Bay will not be accepting applications in advance of the test.
