Fireplace Temporarily Shut Down at Prince Arthur’s Landing

January 10, 2012 – The fireplace that is housed on the skating rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing has been temporarily turned off due to concerns that it was overheating.

“Over the holidays, staff noticed part of the unit's exterior cabinet heating up to a higher temperature than we were comfortable with” said Paul Pepe, Acting Waterfront Project Manager. “We immediately shut the unit off and contacted the contractor and manufacturer of the custom built unit to make the appropriate changes, and they are making this a priority to prevent injury.”

The fireplace is a custom designed and fabricated piece specifically for Prince Arthur's Landing, and the gas fired flame is on a two hour timer being reset remotely by attendants throughout the rink's operating hours. The rink's stainless steel cabinet is insulated to allow it to be warm to the touch but not hot.

The unit is under warrantee and being addressed accordingly.
