Free Week at the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility – May 6 to 13

May 2, 2012 – Free Week at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility on Mapleward Road is an annual event for many residents in Thunder Bay.

Free Week at the landfill runs Sunday, May 6 to Sunday, May 13, not the dates listed in the April/May issue of MyTBay. To encourage homeowners to spruce up their homes and yards during May’s Municipal Spring Up to Clean Up program, landfill tipping fees are waived for all cars and non-commercial light trucks. Regular tipping fees apply to all loads brought onto the site in commercial vehicles.

Traffic at the site increases significantly in the spring and especially during Spring Up to Clean Up.  All loads coming in must be organized so they can be easily removed to the proper laydown areas in the following order:
Second right turn after you enter the site:

  • Household Recycling – paper, glass, cardboard, tetra paks & milk cartons, metal cans, aluminum cans and #1 and #2 plastic bottles only
  • E-Waste
  • Household Hazardous Waste

  • Large / bulky Items such as mattresses

Traffic at the site increases during Free Week. Residents are asked to be patient and drive carefully. If possible, visit the site on Sunday, May 6 or Sunday May 13 when fewer vehicles are on site. Early mornings are the best time of day to come in order to avoid lineups.
