Girl Power 9 Conference- Be Strong. Be You.

April 24, 2012 – The City of Thunder Bay Recreation and Culture Division, along with its partners, will be presenting the 9th Annual Girl Power Conference on Saturday, May 12, from 9 am to 4 pm at Confederation College.

The event continues to grow in popularity, meeting the needs of girls to experience fitness and wellness activities in a fun, supportive environment. Female only programs have provided the motivation to get girls involved in active lifestyles.

“Girls and young women deserve an opportunity to participate in sport and recreation in their own way.” said Myles Cizmar, Supervisor of Community Programs-Children & Youth. “For many girls this event helps break the ice and encourages them to keep moving after the Conference.”

The conference is for girls in grades 5 to 9, and offers many activities including past favourites Zumba and Volleyball, along with some new activities, such as, Hula Hoop Fitness and Ultimate Frisbee. Once again, the ‘Cool Girl’ contest will be offered. Girls can submit some form of creative expression that best symbolizes what makes girls great. The winners are chosen by their peers at the conference.

Registration is $25 or $35 with a T-shirt. Girl Power 9 is a part of Youth Week celebrations.

The conference is presented by the City of Thunder Bay Recreation & Culture Division in partnership with the Ontario Healthy Communities Fund, Confederation College, Thunder Bay Boys and Girls Club and Soroptimist.

Call 625-2351 to sign up, or in person at the Victoraville Civic Centre. Deadline for registration is May 7.
