Golf Course Update: Chapples Remaining Closed for Green Work

May 4, 2011 – Due to the cooler weather conditions, Chapples Golf Course will not open this week.

“Chapples had a number of greens that experienced some winter ice damage and we believe that they will recover faster by restricting traffic and leaving the turf covers on them for an additional period of time,” said Tom Forsythe, Director of Golf – Golf Thunder Bay. “We want the quality of play to be the best it can be for our golfers in the long run, therefore we are holding off for another week.”

In addition to the greens needing additional time to recover, the course is also quite wet and the use of power carts would not be possible this week.

The greens will continue to be monitored on a daily basis and the course will be open as soon as possible. The course is not expected to open before Wednesday, May 11 and more likely Friday, May 13. The driving range at Chapples opened for the season on Friday, April 29 and will remain open.

Municipal golf Course is opened for play today and Strathcona will open on Friday, May 6.For more information visit www.thunderbay.ca/golf or call the Golf Information Line at 625-3156.
